PHOTOGRAPHY

lens of connection

One of my proudest achievements is undoubtedly winning a national gold award for Scholastic Arts and Writing in photography.

It all began during my winter break when I embarked on a photography expedition to Boston. Determined to capture the essence of the city, I spent an incredible eight hours roaming the streets, seeking out the perfect shots.

As fate would have it, during the late hours of the evening, I encountered a homeless gentleman who approached me and asked if I could take his picture. In that moment, something inside me sparked a deep sense of empathy and connection. I obliged, capturing his image while he shared a brief but impactful snippet of his life story. I listened intently, genuinely moved by his words.

Moved by this encounter, I titled the photograph "You Know My Story" and submitted it to the Scholastic Arts competition. The anticipation and excitement I felt while waiting for the results were immeasurable. When I finally received the news that I had won the national gold award, an overwhelming sense of joy and fulfillment washed over me.

This achievement holds great significance for me because it not only showcases my technical skills as a photographer but also highlights the power of storytelling through imagery. Through that one photograph, I was able to capture a moment of connection and convey the human experience in a profound and emotional way. It taught me the true power of art and the potential it holds to bring about empathy, understanding, and change.
